6U Program Information

The SMGLL 6U Chicklettes program is a fun, introductory program designed for Pre-K and Kindergarten athletes. This age-appropriate program focuses on building a love for sports while introducing the basic skills of lacrosse in a positive, playful environment.

Through engaging games and simple drills, players will learn:

• Fundamental lacrosse skills (throwing, catching, cradling, scooping)

• Basic athletic movement and coordination

• Listening, teamwork, and following instructions

• Confidence through participation and play

No prior lacrosse or sports experience is required. The emphasis at the Chicklettes level is on fun, movement, and foundational skills, helping young athletes feel comfortable and excited to be part of a team.

This program is a great first step into youth sports and the SMGLL community.

The goal of the recreational league is to teach and foster development of the sport through instruction in both practice and game situations. 6U Chicklettes typically practice once a week with mini scrimmages on Saturdays. Practice locations and times are approved via a permitted application process through St. Mary's County Recreation and Parks as well as private Home Owner Associations.

All division play is in accordance with USA Lacrosse Official Rules for Girls and Women’s Lacrosse.  The complete rules can be viewed at https://www.usalacrosse.com/girls-and-womens-rules

Practice: Typically held on Wednesdays and begin third week of March

Location: Typically Dorsey Park practice area (near the pavillion by the baseball fields or field 6)

Mini Scrimmages: Will begin in April (typically Saturdays, 9 am, Dorsey Park Field 6.)

Lax-A-Daisy: Tentative Saturday, May 9
